Sanding Parquet Flooring
Parquet flooring is a timeless architectural feature found across many traditional and modern UK homes. Countersink Fasteners: All exposed nails are driven below the wood surface to prevent damaging the sanding machines.
Deep Cleaning: The floor is vacuumed thoroughly to remove abrasive grit, debris, and dust.
2. Multi-Directional Parquet Floor Sanding Techniques
Standard floors are sanded parallel to the grain. Because parquet floor sanding involves wood running in multiple directions, professionals must sand at specific angles to achieve a perfectly flat surface without gouging.
The First Cut (Coarse Grit)Professionals utilize a heavy-duty belt sander or drum sander for the initial pass. They sand diagonally at a 45-degree angle across the pattern using a coarse 36-grit or 40-grit sandpaper. This flattens uneven blocks (lippage) and strips away old, stubborn varnishes.
The Medium Sand (Medium Grit)The next pass is done at the opposite 45-degree angle using a medium 60-grit or 80-grit paper. This cross-cutting technique removes the scratches left by the first coarse pass while maintaining a perfectly level floor plane.
Edging and Detailing
A specialized radiator edger or disc sander is used to sand right up to the skirting boards. Technicians use matching grits to ensure the perimeter blends seamlessly with the center of the room.3. Instead, they use a method called trowel filling.
